Jeremy Sawkins Guitar

A member of the Australian music community since the late 1970’s as a performing guitarist, composer, bandleader and recording artist, Jeremy has shared the stage and recording studios with many notable musicians. Having performed all around Australia, he has also performed in Europe and Asia and is regarded as one of Australia’s most versatile jazz guitarists.Some of Jeremy’s earliest jazz performances were with the prolific saxophonists David Ades and Dale Barlow as well as the highly respected expatriate guitarist Peter O’Mara (Germany). After graduating from the N.S.W. Conservatorium of Music in 1984 (Associate Diploma of Jazz Studies), Jeremy joined his former teacher, the late Dr Roger Frampton in the band ‘Intersection’ (1985-1987) which performed in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. They recorded one album ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ (out of print).Since then Jeremy has led many of his own groups, his current being the ‘Jeremy Sawkins Band’ and the ‘Jeremy Sawkins Trio’. Jeremy had a long musical association with expatriate singer Kristen Cornwell (who now resides in Belgium). Jeremy has been a core member of the ARIA award winning group Wanderlust since 1996.He has performed and recorded with Jackie Orzsacsky, Sandy Evans, Alister Spence, Matt McMahon, Spike Mason, Lloyd Swanton, Craig Scott, Bernie McGann, Phil Wilson (U.S.A.) James and John Morrison, John Foreman, Don Burrows, Phil Slater, Simon Barker, Peter Locke, Dan Barnett, Jason Morphett, Dominic Miller (Sting) and Ira Coleman to name but a few.Recent performances have seen Jeremy sharing the stage with such luminaries as Sting and Dominic Miller, Katie Noonan, Wendy Matthews, Kristin Berardi, Melinda Schneider, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ella Hooper, Alma Orquestra and Glenn Shorrock among others. He recently performed at the 2023 Adelaide Guitar Festival with Paul Mason and James Muller in a tribute to the late Jeff Beck. Jeremy is currently involved with several groups including Serenata Trio (with Trish Delaney-Brown), The Casey Greene/Jeremy Sawkins Quintet (featuring pianist Peter Locke), The Jeremy Sawkins Organ Trio (featuring organist Clayton Doley) and electro-acoustic jazz outfit Avant Raag (featuring percussionist Greg Sheehan)Apart from being a featured artist on many recording since the 1980’s, Jeremy has released five albums as leader featuring his own compositions. “Toys” (1994) “Southpaw” (2001) “Jazz Organism ‘Live’ in Dublin” (2010) “Artefact” JS Organ Quartet (2016) “Somnambience” (2021)
